Rachel McAuley Therapy
About Me
Since 2013, I’ve been working as a counsellor creating a non-judgemental and open environment where people are encouraged to share their story and the difficulties they may be experiencing.
My approach to counselling acknowledges the importance of creating a respectful, empathic and trusting relationship with clients in which they can share openly, come to terms with the issues they are facing and move forward.
I specialise in working with domestic and sexual abuse, but am not limited to this having worked in general therapeutic practice for the NHS for the last five years. I have experience in anxiety, depression, stress, work difficulties, bereavement, relational issues, health problems, identity issues, self-esteem. I have worked with children, teenagers and adults.
I trained as an integrative therapist meaning I use different approaches and models of counselling to tailor my therapy and clinical supervision to the individual in front of me. Some of the approaches I have trained in and draw from include:
-
Person Centred
-
Systemic Therapy
-
CBT
-
Compassion Focussed Therapy
-
Solution Focussed Therapy
-
Creative and Play Therapies
-
Trauma Informed Therapy
-
Counselling for Depression.
I also have specific training to help people explore how their spirituality or faith or meaning of life is impacted when facing difficulties. For some this is a key part of their journey for others it is not. As with all issues brought to counselling I follow the lead of the client, providing a non-directional, safe environment for exploring this kind of issue.
My aim as an experienced therapist is to adapt my skills to work with each individual in a tailored way, exploring alongside you at your own pace.
I am passionate about what I do and find it a privilege to work alongside people to explore issues. I'm also incredibly passionate about supporting workplaces to provide an environment where staff wellbeing can thrive. My wellbeing at work and trauma training are designed and adapted to each workplace.
If you have any questions about my methods, or would like to schedule a consultation, please get in touch today.
My Story
Originally working as a support worker and then managing a service for women with complex needs, I quickly became aware of the impact our mental health has on day to day life. Having experienced vicarious trauma and burnout from my work I ended up in therapy and not only found it incredibly helpful personally, but decided a qualification in counselling would add to my skill set for work.
That was eleven years ago and I haven't looked back. Working as a counsellor both in DV/SV specialist services and the NHS has been such a privilege. I specialise in trauma and domestic and sexual abuse but have experience working with a broad range of difficulties, including generalised anxiety (worry about everything), bereavement, low mood, sleep difficulties, work related stress, relational difficulties and more.
I'm passionate about providing a space for people to explore life's difficulties and facilitating change in individual therapy in a non-judgemental environment. Alongside this I love nothing more than supporting staff through clinical supervision and training teams in trauma and/or wellbeing.
If you feel you would like to work with me I'd love to hear from you. You can book a free 30 minute consultation online with no obligation to continue working together after it.
